My man Jonathan is always spot-on.

But when it comes to decorating, color can be scary.

White is safe. Gray is safe. Beige is boring super safe.

And the thing is, when you are about to spend a lot of hard-earned money on something (and you expect to live with it for years to come) your brain says "be safe." That's why there are so many neutral rooms out there.

But color? Color is freeing. Color is happiness. Color is expression. Think of the Instagram-mania that has followed the recent Bowery Mural installation. It's pure color and pure happiness.

I say go for the color.

Which is what I'm telling myself about the pink rug I just purchased.

At first I panicked over it…Pink? What am I thinking? I'm an adult. I have a husband. Is this a huge mistake?

But I love it, and perhaps surprisingly, Mike likes it too. So it stays. At least you can't say we're afraid of life.
