interior inspiration // étagères

With a new apartment on the horizon, I have been doing a lot of interior stalking lately.

As long-time readers may remember, our current apartment was partially furnished, which means we are starting from scratch in a lot of respects. In particular, we are trying to decide what to do in the living room with the TV situation.

You see, we are not one of those couples that discreetly tucks a small TV in the corner. No no, 9 out of 10 sporting events involve at least six men sitting around my apartment watching "the game." Which in decorator world means breaking all rules, and planning around the television.

I'm thinking perhaps we should flank it with a pair of étagères ?

I love how they come in so many styles. Plus you can style them up with lots of fabulous things to display your personality and remind yourself that your apartment is not just a fancied up sports bar.

They even add instant glamour to a bathroom…

Jonathan Adler makes a to-die-for lucite number and Room and Board has a well-priced option that comes in a range of fun colors. I love the red but the yellow would be really fun in the right space.

Gold is a popular choice.

Ballard Design carries a gorgeous bamboo style and I adore this version from Highland House.

You can get them at vintage stores or places like 1st dibs (which has a gorgeous selection). The only downside is they can quickly get expensive because you are purchasing two.

However, this Ikea hack makes a pretty gorgeous one for less than $200.

And that my friends, is our interior inspiration for the day.
