J.Crew shirt old similar | DL1961 jeans | Frye boots | Zara coat | L.L.Bean bag | ASOS hat old love this one

At a point in time when the word quality is used to justify sky-high prices L.L.Bean bags proves that well-made doesn't have to mean wildly expensive. Mike and I love our camo hunter tote but I have a tendency to overfill it (which can make carrying it with its short handles awkward*). So a few weeks ago I ordered L.L.Bean's large zip-top boat and tote with long handles and it has quickly become my go-to bag.

As a city girl I don't have the luxury of throwing things in my car, so whatever I need for the day has to go with me. From my camera, to a change of shoes (or even a full outfit) this bag is big enough to handle it all. We took a quick road trip to Philly last weekend, and I used it to carry not only my clothes, but also my laptop and a few small projects. It was great to just have one bag to carry (no more purse + laptop bag + duffle bag...which equals me whining).

At less than $50 for a large monogrammed version, this bag would make a perfect gift for anybody on your holiday list. L.L.Bean is known for its quality and craftsmanship, and their bags truly last a lifetime. I have some that my parents got before I was born and besides a little fading (which only adds to their charm) they are no worse for the wear. It's easy to see why the boat and tote made Nina Garcia's list as one of the Essential 100 items every women should own.

P.S. On a housekeeping note, are any of you having trouble with the comments? I've had a few complaints that the new system is hard to use. Let me know if there is anything I can do to email...obviously (smashingstyleblog {at}

*L.L.Bean please make this with longer handles!
