Thank you for your positive feedback yesterday! I am always hesitant to open up like that, but I'm glad it connected with some of you.
This is the only pre-Thanksgiving gift guide I will be sharing, but I figured this was a good one to do now in case you are traveling next week and want some fresh ideas.
My mom subscribes to the theory that good gifts don't stick around too long. For example a candle, cute stationary, cards, gift tags or even a calendar are great gifts. They are things people love to receive, but that won't be sitting on their shelf collecting dust in 10 years.
I love her theory (and abide by it often) but sometimes I like to bring something related to entertaining for a hostess like these bar accessories, bottle stoppers, coasters, cocktail napkins or measuring cups.
If you want something with a little more heft, The New York Times 36 Hours series are really wonderful. Part coffee table book, part "real read," they come in a variety of destinations and are sure to give your host a serious case of wanderlust.
What are your go-to hostess gifts? Do you stock up on anything in particular? Mike and I usually go for wine or champagne. It's fun, festive and it's nice to spoil your friends with something a little fancier than what they might normally buy.
P.S. I learned from my friend Jessie that when giving a candle it's a nice touch to include some fun matches.
