As if we didn't already love Michelle Adams (the former editor of the beloved Domino magazine) she had to go and give up the hustle and bustle of New York City to move to Ann Arbor, Michigan (home of my alma matter for those of you who may not know). So not only is she cool, and successful with a great eye for design, she's also really down to earth.
Ahh, some people have it all.
Her new home was featured in this month's issue of House Beautiful and it's as delightful as you would imagine. I was particularly charmed by the bedrooms, one of which is painted dark black with bright white accents. And of course, Michelle shares my love for brown furniture. I mean, how could you not be charmed by that gorgeous dresser?
The other bedroom, almost an exact inverse has bright white walls with darker rugs and masculine inspired bedding. As someone who is partial to a fluffy duvet, I actually love the clean look of this simple gray blanket and white piped sheets.
So how can you get this look for yourself? It's actually pretty simple since paint (especially dark paint) can go a long way. Beware though, it's not for the faint of heart (or those with a huge lack of light). Throw in a few fun accents and call it a day.

Just as a side note, Chairish is one of my favorite websites for antique furniture. I love it because your dollar always goes so much farther with vintage pieces. The quality that you get when you spend $500 at Chairish (or on any antique generally) is far superior to most of the big boxy furniture stores people use now. We bought our desk for the lake house there. It was shipped from south Texas but Chairish made it super easy! I've also used it to sell things for clients and I have to tell you they are fabulous to work with no matter what side of the sale you're on.
