I've always struggled with acne. It's never been cystic, just persistent. I've tried dozens of washes, ointments, prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, but nothing really worked. I was still breaking out 99% of the time.
So what was the magical potion? I'm happy to report that it was two simple, over-the-counter products.
After trying dozens of prescription and over-the-counter washes, one of my friends recommended Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser. I was skeptical that it would make any difference, but after using it for the last month, I can confidently say it's the best wash I've ever used. Unlike prescription washes, it doesn't strip my skin, or leave it irritated. It's also much thicker than the drug store washes I have tried (but thankfully, not much more expensive!). Even in this harsh winter weather, I feel like my skin looks better than it has in ages.
Just more proof that sometimes word-of-mouth really is the best advertising. A few of my friends swear by this Mario Badescu drying lotion for drying up pimples overnight, but again, I was skeptical. I had some really strong prescription medicines, so I doubted that anything from a spa could really be better. How wrong I was. Unlike the prescriptions which would leave my skin red and peeling days later, this lotion dries up my zits without drying out the rest of my face. And perhaps best of all, it dries things up enough that I'm not tempted to pick at my skin the next day (one of my worst habits). It does look a little ridiculous on because it doesn't set into your skin, so there's no sneaky swiping it on in the morning. Mike calls it my "cream cheese" medicine because the first time I put it on he asked if I had cream cheese on my face….ahh romance.
